Pumpkin Spice Horror

Life these days is bumpy
And on the whole, I'm getting by
But there's one thing that makes me grumpy
Allow me to explain exactly why
No matter how you remonstrate
You won't make me rejoice
Should you think you should adulterate
My beverage of choice
If you're a new barista
then I'll tell you what this means
You mustn't mess
with how I ingest
my caffeinated beans
What kind of twisted lunatic
Thinks my coffee needs more gourd?
Don't you mistreat my latté
or I'll put you to the sword
My coffee should be coffee
with a topping of steamed milk
I like it good and frothy
With a foam as smooth as silk
Now, mocha I can deal with
And even caramel
But don't even *think* of adding gingerbread
Or you'll see me raising hell

Polt
02:34
|
|||
Three in the morning
and somehow I'm wide awake
Don't know what it was
but it just made the bedroom shake
Sounded like a bookshelf just got tipped out on the floor
I rather hope what did it doesn't do it any more
Was it imagination?
I cannot prove it's real
Auditory hallucination
quickly losing its appeal
Nothing out of place
when I checked all around the house
Perhaps I'm sharing space
with an invisible, giant mouse

I Want To Believe
04:53

At 9 pm on the 4th of August 1990, two days after Saddam Hussein's forces had invaded Kuwait, two hotel workers (who remain anonymous) were walking in the hills near Calvine, a small village on the A9 just north of Pitlochry in Scotland.
Suddenly, from out of nowhere, an object appeared.
The thing was dark; diamond-shaped; wingless, and hovering in the air. Intriguingly, the object was not alone—for around it was flying what appeared to be a Harrier jump jet. One of the witnesses had a camera with him and he had the presence of mind to take not just one photograph, but six.
One of the two witnesses sent the negatives to the Scottish Daily Record who forwarded them to the Ministry of Defence, asking for an explanation. None was forthcoming and the negatives were never seen again.
The National Archive declassified some of the Ministry of Defence's papers on the sighting in 2009, but there were no photographs. Instead, there was a very grainy copy of a drawing purporting to show the diamond-shaped UFO and the Harrier. That's all investigators had turned up.
However...
After thirty years it transpired that RAF Press Officer Craig Lindsay (who was the first official to talk to the witnesses) had saved a copy of what he considered to be the best print and earlier this year it was announced that the print is now in the possession of Sheffield Hallam University, who have made it public. It clearly shows a Harrier. It also shows something that looks very much like a nuts-and-bolts aircraft.
Aliens? Probably not.
Hoax? Maybe.
Super-secret American spy plane? Mmm... Stranger things have happened.
What do you think?

Missing Time
04:33
|
|||
The way this tale always commences
Strange lights begin the episode
Next thing, we're coming to our senses
on an unfamiliar road
Was it hallucination?
Was what took place simply a dream?
Are all of these sensations
any more than what they seem?
Try to remember what you underwent
at the scene of the crime
Recollections of a strange event
which occurred in missing time
We're all just pieces on a board
Unearthly powers we can't name
If we're picked up or just ignored
the end result is much the same
Some people choose to follow visions
that will push them to the brink
Consequences of decisions
made because they couldn't think

Spooklight
03:59
|
|||
From Marfa up to Hessdalen
there's something on the move
Somebody captured it on film again
There's very little left to prove
Another glowing ball
gently gliding through the trees
I don't know what it is at all
but it moves against the breeze
There's another spooklight
off in the distance, nice and clear
might be mistaking a car headlight
but I wouldn't get too near
You can't explain all lights as traffic,
on a distant lonely road
but for a tale that's topographic,
Fata Morgana's a la mode
A ball of plasma's hypothetic
but one too cold for it to burn
It also seems to be magnetic
Just watch your compass twist and turn

Semiotic Ghosts
03:18
|
|||
They say the camera never lies
You need to pay attention
if he's coming to your town
If he's around, you're in for a surprise
Strange things
are definitely going to go down
Things that his camera sees
Things that will never be
Saucers, bigfoot, nordics, Nessie
he's seen them all, but he doesn't like to boast
Sasquatch, greys, Elvis, yeti
He's been photographing semiotic ghosts
He says the trick is never asking why
phantoms flock
to pose for his photographs
He's never tried to quantify
What's the attraction
beyond doing this for laughs

Les and Colin found them back in '71
buried in the garden of their house
Focus for a wave of spooky goings-on
Weird stuff in large amounts
We can't sleep safely in our beds
Who's got the Hexham Heads?
Took them to the Abbey to see what they were
Gave an archaeologist a fright
She woke to see a figure covered all in fur,
a werewolf in plain sight!
A neighbour said he'd made the heads in '56
moulded them from concrete, as you do
So why would they possess this witchy bag of tricks?
And where the heads are now, I have no clue...

Do Ghosts Drink Lattés?
02:27
|
|||
Do ghosts drink lattés?
I really want to know
My coffee cup is empty
So where did it all go?
My mother had a saying
(as I switch on my machine)
"Coffee lifts the spirits!"
But what did she really mean?
Now, this is getting silly
it's more than I can take
My plate is also empty
Tell me: do spooks eat cake?

The Oz Factor
02:35
|
|||
It's oh so quiet
It's oh so still
We've been abducted again
Against our will
Strange lights are drifting
between the trees
I really hate
events like these
I have complained
ten times or more
these bloody elves
keep breaking laws
These wretched things
committing crimes
*and* we'll end up
with more missing time
Next time it happens
I've made a list
I'll give those buggers
A cease and desist

Solid Light
03:42
|
|||
The MIT-Harvard Center for Ultracold Atoms
conducted experiments in the 2010s.
Single photons were fired from weak lasers
into a dense cloud of rubidium
cooled to near absolute zero.
The speed of light in the cloud
was about 100,000 times slower
than in a vacuum.
Within the cloud,
photons lost energy
and gained mass!
The conditions allowed photons
to attract and bind to other photons,
and exit the cloud as molecules.
Many UFO reports
refer to a phenomenon
described as "solid light"

The Improbable
02:56
|
|||
Joan Forman tells a story
which I think you ought to know
of falling through a crack in time
to centuries ago
Why is it more and more events
have long ceased making any sense?
From ghosts and ghouls to poltergeists
and a ship once called Marie Celeste
When it comes to the improbable
Science is not impressed
Robert Taylor was a victim
of a criminal assault
but how can he press charges
if it's aliens at fault?
Since the Tories came to power
Chaos has ensued
Who is it still supports them,
'cos they haven't got a clue?

Marginality
04:20
|
|||
You live in two worlds
where I do not reside
I belong to neither
But am simply outside
For most of the planet
I simply do not exist
Any trace of my being
Altogether dismissed
And yet my dire situation
Contains a hidden surprise
In mental abnegation
Profound enlightenment lies

Withdrawal
04:04
|
|||
Never moving forward
without first drawing back
Grace through being awkward
Retreat evades attack
Seeing what you're viewing
From outside looking in
Stopping what you're doing
In order to begin
Equal in perspective
from pauper to the crown
To fix what is defective
You first must tear it down

Regeneration
03:56
|
|||
There is a sudden loss of tension
You're kindling, ready for the spark
And if you're paying close attention
The way ahead is not as dark
A light is shining through the grey
Awareness isn't quite as blind
Now you can see signs of the way
As at last you leave the woods behind
You have yet to pay your dues
These are just random early gains
Don't let this trivia confuse
The greater work remains

Transformation
03:56
|
|||
Now you can access information
Old falsehoods turn out to be true
The person stopping transformation
you fought so hard against was you
Now you have vanquished your opponent
Your old concerns will fade away
You have worked towards this moment
Tomorrow won't be like today
Transformation can be stressful
Things are no longer how they were
But your intentions were successful
Be grateful that they have occurred

Chris Harris Bristol, UK
I'm still trying to get the music I record to sound like the version I can hear in my head. To do this I've ended up playing every instrument I can get my hands on. These days, I'm closer to "That Sound" than I used to be, but the journey continues.
