Polt

Polt is short for "poltergeist" or noisy ghost (and the German word is much more evocative than their widely-used "klopfgeist" which means a knocking or rapping ghost). Do ghosts rap? There's an album I'd be interested in hearing.

I did eventually discover what the cause of the mysterious noise was; the lid of a large cardboard box in the loft had mysteriously fallen to the floor.

In the middle of the night.

Spooky, indeed.

Three in the morning
and somehow I'm wide awake
Don't know what it was
but it just made the bedroom shake

Sounded like a bookshelf just got tipped out on the floor
I rather hope what did it doesn't do it any more

Was it imagination?
I cannot prove it's real
Auditory hallucination

when I checked all around the house

with an invisible, giant mouse
