about

Another album in my "The Learning Project" series, Spontaneous Grand Pianos was recorded during January 2021 as I did a deep dive into the various piano VSTs that I've acquired over the last decade. Instruments include NI's Una Corda, The Maverick, The Grand, and Noire pianos as well as Arturia's Piano V2. The album also features lots of virtual and physical synths, a wide variety of electric guitars, and the bass guitar was played on my trusty nine-string Ibanez RG9-BK. Everything was recorded using Ableton Live 10.

As with the earlier albums in this series, work on these tracks has featured regularly on my Twitch live streams. If you like what you hear, please consider following me at www.twitch.tv/headfirstonly

The title comes from a thought experiment about deep time. Given enough of it, provided that an event is not infinitely improbable, it WILL take place. After the heat death of the Universe, when everything has reached thermal equilibrium, random fluctuations of atoms in space might lead to them eventually combining back into a functioning human brain, for example (it's known as a "Boltzmann Brain" if you want to read up on thought experiments in cosmology) or even a spontaneous grand piano, floating alone in the darkness at the end of time...

That was such a beautiful and improbable image that I knew I had to compose an album about it. And here it is. I hope you enjoy it.

about

Chris Harris Bristol, UK

I'm still trying to get the music I record to sound like the version I can hear in my head. To do this I've ended up playing every instrument I can get my hands on. These days, I'm closer to "That Sound" than I used to be, but the journey continues.
