The Principle of Sufficient Reason

from Continuous Fiction by Chris Harris

/

about

Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz reckoned that everything which takes place must have a reason or a cause. Nothing, he argued, could ever be said to have "just happened."

Every story you see in the media is there for a reason. The way it's presented to you is chosen for a reason. They're often not good ones. The most callous example of this I can think of in recent years has been the reframing of refugees as "migrants." This obscures the fact that such people are attempting to escape devastation and conflict. They did not choose to leave their homes; it was forced upon them. Birds migrate; people flee.

about

Chris Harris Bristol, UK

I'm still trying to get the music I record to sound like the version I can hear in my head. To do this I've ended up playing every instrument I can get my hands on. These days, I'm closer to "That Sound" than I used to be, but the journey continues.
