Heliopause

from Star Stuff by Chris Harris

/

about

The sun's solar wind surrounds it, like a big bubble of charged particles. We live comfortably inside this bubble, protected from its radiation by the Earth's magnetic field and atmosphere. And the bubble extends a long way—well beyond the orbit of Pluto. It's called the Heliosphere.

The Heliopause is the theoretical point where the solar wind is stopped by the interstellar medium of particles that permeate the rest of the galaxy. NASA announced in September 2013 that its Voyager 1 spacecraft had crossed the Heliopause on August 25th, 2012, placing it some 18 billion kilometres from the sun.

I found myself wondering what sort of music Voyager would play to itself, out there at the edge of the Solar System. This is the result.

about

Chris Harris Bristol, UK

I'm still trying to get the music I record to sound like the version I can hear in my head. To do this I've ended up playing every instrument I can get my hands on. These days, I'm closer to "That Sound" than I used to be, but the journey continues.
