I was once mocked for having the temerity to suggest that an eye-witness to a sighting had been looking at a commonplace phenomenon (an aircraft contrail) in an unusual context and had seen what they wanted to see rather than what was actually there. I was told that this was a much less likely explanation than it being an alien spacecraft from another solar system. The person telling me this did not see anything unusual about their argument, which should tell you a lot about the sort of person who ends up tumbling down the rabbit hole.

Nobody uses Occam's Razor any more, do they?
