Down The Rabbit Hole

from Out There by Chris Harris

/

about

Did you know that the psychological concept of 'cognitive dissonance' originated from the work of a team of psychologists, led by Leon Festinger, who infiltrated a flying saucer contactee cult back in the 1950s? Ethics committees clearly weren't a thing people bothered with at universities back then. Festinger's subsequent book "When Prophecy Fails" is a fascinating, if rather depressing read.

I have seen intelligent, rational people gradually become obsessed with conspiracy theories and international cover-ups, and it's profoundly sad to watch it happening to someone you know.

lyrics

This rabbit hole you've fallen down's not good for you
The people here will not play by the rules
You might not care for money but I'll bet they surely do
One look at you, they'll think they've won the pools
A contribution large enough will open doors for you;
down here, they gladly suffer fools

In all this confusion, there is money to be made
You'll be the last to find it's not by you though, I'm afraid

Going down the rabbit hole to find out where it leads
Assuming that no-one has gone before
and thinking you can place your trust in everything you read
Is just an easy way for getting poor

Returning to the surface must be hard for you
I know this from the way you're looking dazed
Now they've extracted every final thing they could from you
your new-found friends will simply fade away
The sucker punch reality has got in store for you
is going to leave you properly amazed

about

Chris Harris Bristol, UK

I'm still trying to get the music I record to sound like the version I can hear in my head. To do this I've ended up playing every instrument I can get my hands on. These days, I'm closer to "That Sound" than I used to be, but the journey continues.
