Choose Your Delusion

from Out There by Chris Harris

about

Inspired by a friend's discovery of a book written by Noel Edmonds in the late 90s about the practice of manifesting, also known as "cosmic ordering."

If you think that sounds like it advocates treating the Universe as some sort of immense Argos catalogue that you can browse for the things you most want to get out of life and then—if you want them hard enough—they will magically appear, then you have very much hit the nail on the head.

(Spoiler: as one of the caveats of Noel's book was that 'life isn't fair', I'm guessing that the practice didn't work out for him, so I have to conclude that it's unlikely to help you, either.)

lyrics

When life does not live up to expectations
at the ballot box or in romance
why should you change up your operation,
be subject to the fickle whims of chance?
Who needs reality, and its foundations?
A world of fantasy wants you to dance...

You're an astronaut!
You have psychic powers!
You keep seeing ghosts!
You're a movie star!
This week, you'll win the pools!
Your intellect just towers!
Just ignore those fools,
you're who you say you are

Have we all missed
that we exist
in a collective illusion?
Life is absurd
Don't follow the herd
Choose your delusion

Do not tell others how the secret found you
'cause in this game, we must rely on stealth
But the advantages are all around you
The way the whole thing simply sells itself
There were no shackles that you thought had bound you
You're free to leave the world of mental health

I see you're wary of a big commitment
I understand, it's what I used to fear
You really do need all of this equipment
For what it is, it really isn't dear
It will arrive by post in fifteen shipments
A small downpayment, and you're in the clear!

about

Chris Harris Bristol, UK

I'm still trying to get the music I record to sound like the version I can hear in my head. To do this I've ended up playing every instrument I can get my hands on. These days, I'm closer to "That Sound" than I used to be, but the journey continues.
