KBO2003 EL61 Haumea

Haumea is the goddess of the island Hawaii, home of the Mauna Kea Observatory from which this KBO was discovered.

Like Varuna, Haumea spins so fast that it is flattened, not spherical. But Haumea is much more flattened than Varuna - imagine living somewhere where the distance from one side of the equator to the other was twice the distance from the north pole to the south pole! Despite this, Haumea is one of the largest minor planets that we know about, measuring nearly 2000 km across at its widest point.

I wanted this track to convey the beginnings of a return to normality so I revisited some of the sounds and chord progressions I used earlier. It's slow to start, but triumphal. It was recorded very quickly by comparison to some of the other tracks on the album - the whole thing was completed in a couple of days.
