KBO2002 LM60 Quaoar

Quaoar. The very name sounds mysterious, and it fascinated me as soon as I first heard it. Quaoar was a deity of the Mission Indians of southern California. Little is known about him - was he a creator, a prophet, or an avenging hero?

Quaoar is one of the largest of the trans-Neptunian objects, over 1000 km in diameter. When it was discovered in 2002 this made it the largest object to be found in the Solar System since Clyde Tombaugh discovered Pluto in 1930. It's a cubewano like Varuna, as its orbit is nearly circular and it takes 286 years to make one trip round the Sun. Quaoar has a satellite, Weywot, which is approximately 80 km in size.

As Quaoar is one of the largest Kuiper Belt Objects, I felt it deserved a grand, thematic track. In our imaginary future, I sited our ship's base of operations here. This is the place where things get started and the opening credits roll...

about

Chris Harris Bristol, UK

I'm still trying to get the music I record to sound like the version I can hear in my head. To do this I've ended up playing every instrument I can get my hands on. These days, I'm closer to "That Sound" than I used to be, but the journey continues.
