about

KBO1998 WH24 Chaos

19521 Chaos is another cubewano, discovered on November 19th 1998 by the Deep Ecliptic Survey. It's likely to be a dwarf planet, more than 600 km across. It takes more than three hundred years to complete a single orbit around the sun.

In his Theogony, the Greek poet Hesiod described chaos in terms of a gaping void - vacant and infinite space - from which the gods and the cosmos originated. To Ovid, chaos was the mass of all matter before it became organised into specific things. In her divine form, the Greek goddess Khaos was the mother of Nyx (night) and Erebos (darkness).

True to its name, this track suggests that our journey might not pass uneventfully. As we fly through the darkness, we begin to hear sounds of trouble. The clattering bells and inattention of Altjira have taken their toll; melody is absent, and percussive and metallic rhythms and antirhythms come to the fore. They resonate unpredictably in a complex set of feedback loops. Noise generators ensure that all frequencies appear, without shape or form. Disaster lurks close by...

about

Chris Harris Bristol, UK

I'm still trying to get the music I record to sound like the version I can hear in my head. To do this I've ended up playing every instrument I can get my hands on. These days, I'm closer to "That Sound" than I used to be, but the journey continues.
