Guilt Trip
03:22
|
|||
They judge you if you're seen in public
They judge you if you stay indoors
They get upset if what they're feeling
is no priority of yours
Feel guilty when we show up early
Feel guilty when we get there late
Why do we spend our entire lifetime
Living in a guilty state?
Disregard all those judgmental stares
What you do is no concern of theirs
They judge you based on your possessions
They judge you by the things you haven't got
But if you say they're overbearing
They'll have a meltdown on the spot
Feel guilty when things happen quickly
Feel guilty when we're made to wait
Why do we spend our entire lifetime
Living in a guilty state?
They judge you by your age or by your gender
They judge you by the colour of your skin
If you object, you're cast as the offender
We mustn't ever let these bastards win
Feel guilty not being productive
Feel guilty when we put on weight
Why do we spend our entire lifetime
Living in a guilty state?

Disruptor
03:54
|
|||
File not found - did I cross the streams?
Can't get sound. What does it mean?
System downed: anxiety dreams
Burial ground, silent screams
I have no clue
for what to do
Turn it off and on again
DISRUPTOR
Lacking in causation
DISRUPTOR
Focus on negation
DISRUPTOR
Generate frustration
DISRUPTOR
PROGRAM TERMINATION
You are not who you say you are
What you've got not up to par
Every shot in your repertoire
hits the spot where it gets bizarre...

Chasing Latency

I'm told the limit
Is not the sky
I'm deep down in it
But I can't say why
Though I've gone to town
to my dismay
When I press play
The flag is down
Sick and tired of what it means
to have rewired the whole machine
This production
is getting tough
And no reduction
will ever be enough
An example
of what I hate
I have to sample
at a lower rate
And each revision
Has less effect
Too much concision
and the number's wrecked
I'm getting hazy
No longer sure
Is it crazy
to expect a cure?
Try as I might
to follow through
It's never right
But what can you do?

R 'n' R
03:51
|
|||
I need to unplug from the system
Can't find a signal in the noise
Stop doing things until I miss them
Identify what I enjoy
Step back for taking stock
It's the only way to rock
When you find you're too busy doing
to establish who you are
Then what you do might need reviewing
It's time to take some r'n'r
When your mind insists on working
and always running in the red
you know a breakdown may be lurking
go do some chilling out instead
It shouldn't take a final warning
to make us see what we have lost
Just make sure tomorrow morning
That what you do is worth the cost

Out On Top
03:17
|
|||
You know they're out there from the mess they leave behind
They could make things better but they're not that way inclined
If they don't see the value, they just burn it to the ground
They love to raise their margins when it's morally unsound
Won't run out of money
But we're running out of time
They keep pretending that the party never stops
They'll burn the planet just so they come out on top
With no resources everything comes to a halt
Claim market forces, not behaviour, were at fault
No surprise that some of them are making plans to leave
It's hard to run the planet when you find it hard to breathe
The way they carry on has simply no defence
They made their fortunes by denying common sense
Don't care how many generations they've betrayed
All that matters is the lovely profit that they've made

Tipping Point
05:26
|

We've reached the moment we finally see
We're in a climate emergency
Temperature rising, it's through the roof
Still in denial? Out there's your proof
This is a blowtorch, it's not a breeze
It broke the records by four degrees
And this is June, lest you forget;
July and August be hotter yet
The weather's out of joint
We've reached the tipping point
Economics won't care
about a load of hot air
and now we haven't a prayer
Democracy has been hacked
and by ignoring the facts
our leaders failed to act
Ecology in retreat
while tarmac melts in the street
because we turned up the heat
Things go to ruin and wrack
Will we just follow the pack
leave it too late to turn back?
Those carbon offsets? They're just a scam
to salve our conscience, not worth a damn
We're past the point where planting trees
is going to set my mind at ease
We put off acting, left it too late
and now the climate is changing state
We've reached the point of no return
Will we just let our planet burn?

Edgelord
04:10
|
|||
Lurking in the darkness with a keyboard in his hand
Overweight, and in over his head
He's been causing trouble since the Internet began
His brain, to all appearances, quite dead
Not too hot on punctuation, grammar is for snobs
No logic in his reasoning, as such
His strategy for winning is to be a massive knob;
methinks he overcompensates too much
He's so naive he thinks the Internet's a toy
Wants to be a rebel but he's just a little boy
Every other sentence starts with "Actually, I think..."
though thinking is a thing he's never done
Hopped up to the gills on overcaffeinated drinks
Each argument he last, he'll claim he won
In each debate he only has a single course to take:
he'll assert the opposite is true
Paying no attention to the points you try to make
because he thinks he's cleverer than you
Do not conclude that it is necessary to engage
Remember that he's looking for a fight
The one thing you can do to make him fly into a rage
is tell him that he's sure he thinks he's right.

Make Your Mind Up Time

This cabin out in the woods
is perfect as a hideaway where we can go
and not be disturbed
We'll live on canned and dry goods
That old man's warning was quite clearly
completely absurd
But there's that scratching at the door again
and that unearthly distant humming
Who left that skeleton just lying in the rain?
Explanation not forthcoming
I am beginning to think
the motives of the guy who sold this place to us
were not so benign
And I am drawing a link
between that troubled family history of his
and of mine
And there's that howling in the yard outside
(at least it's better than the humming)
Where did the lantern go on which we had relied?
Explanation not forthcoming
The thought of flight
still makes me hesitate
Instead of packing
I'll just stand and watch you levitate
And now that scratching at the door's returned
Fresh blood is leaking from the plumbing
I must admit I'm just a little bit concerned
Explanation not forthcoming

Chris Harris Bristol, UK
I'm still trying to get the music I record to sound like the version I can hear in my head. To do this I've ended up playing every instrument I can get my hands on. These days, I'm closer to "That Sound" than I used to be, but the journey continues.
